Yesterday we released a new DotNetNuke social network for Microsoft's System Center product line, called System Center Central in time for the Microsoft Management Summit 2009. This is the first phase of the project that includes Articles,  Audio and Videos, Blogs, Downloads, Forums, and more. This site is solely using DNN 5 and Venexus DNN modules.

There is a new module setting in Index Item that allows for file security.  File security controls who will have access to the file. The options are public, private, and request.

There are three new video tutorials available now for viewing.  The videos include Basic Search Tutorial, Social Networking Tutorial, and Profile Search: Adding A Custom Profile Property.  More videos will be added over time and announced in this blog upon release.

All Modules from the Venexus Software Collection can now be used on DNN5.  Make sure you have updated to the latest versions before installing.  Also make sure to select the Ignore File Restrictions checkbox when installing the modules.  The latest versions of the modules can be found here.

Modules from the Venexus Social Network Package can now be used on DNN5.  The modules are: WebControls, ProfileSearch, Groups, Messaging, and Categories.  Make sure you have updated to the latest versions before installing.  Also make sure to select the Ignore File Restrictions checkbox when installing the modules.  The latest versions of the modules can be found here.

All of the modules have been updated to version 4.1.0.  Some new features have been added to the Groups, Index Item, and Profile Search modules.

Groups

The Groups module now supports Photo Galleries.  The uploading, editing, organizing, and viewing of the photos is identical to how it's done in the Profile Search module.

The method for approving group requests has also been improved.  Now there is a queue where you can approve or deny requests to join the group.

IndexItem

There is now a Manage Media option on the detail page for all items.  The Manage Media option is for items that contain files.  Additionally, the method for editing video thumbnails has been improved.

Profile Search

There is now Karma Point functionality in the Profile Search module.  Karma Points are points awarded to users for performing various actions on the site.  In addition to the karma points there is an option for Karma Level.  With Karma Level, extra points can be awarded once a user reaches a certain, admin defined, level.

The problem I run into with these FCKeditors is that there is an option to spell check the document, but the option is grayed out.  Also, the Firefox spell check does not work within the editor.

We officially have released the 4.0 version for all of our DNN modules in our subscription. This is a major release for several reasons.

1. EntitySpaces - We are now using the latest release from EntitySpaces (2008.1.927.0) .
2. BusinessObjects - Since we updated ES, we had to update our BusinessObjects.
3. WebControls - Webcontrols handles assemblies for ES and BO. All modules use WebControls for bookmarks, comments, ratings, and voting.
4. Templates - As we perfect our own DNN social network, we frequently make changes to the templates to support new features and fucntionality.
5. DNN 4.7 - 4.9 - Our 4.x releases will support DNN 4.7 - 4.9. When DotNetNule 5.0 is released, we will be releasing all of our modules as a 5.0 release in support for the new DNN manifest files changes and DNN 5.0 specific methods. At some point, we will no longer support pre-DNN 5.0 sites, but date is not determined at this time.

There are also significant changes in the Groups and ProfileSearch module.

For the Groups we added:

• WebControls to allow bookmarks, comments, ratings, and voting.
• Image handling for Group image (Group photo album will be in the next release just like you have in ProfileSearch)
• Latest X Groups to show newly created/updated groups.

For the ProfileSearch we added:

• Karma points for display
• DisplayName in window title for SEO.
• Email notifications when adding friends.
• FirstName and LastName search
• Setting for how many photo albums to display in a row.
