I want to use these modules to maximize the effectiveness of my sites same portal search. I have a lot of time invested into understanding all these modules and I find the use to be counter intuitive and hard.  For what it is worth here are my recommendations:

There should be a central module.

  1. For example if it is Moderation then from moderation you should be able to see all indexed items and filter between approved and unapproved.
  2. You should be able to select multiple items and add them all to the same category.
  3. You should be able to search withing the moderation area as well as filter. So I could search for a key word and then work on the results that come up. I could search on other key words and add keywords to those results so they show up under other keywords. For example on my site I use the word 'tuition' but I know many search by 'cost'. So I would like to get all results that come up under tuition and edit their keywords.
  4. With the same feature I could add all results in bulk to a specific categories.
  5. I would like to be able to search by url and get all the module results that show up under that tab ID.
  6. I would like to be able to search on a keyword and remove entries without removing them from the index. Some words are pervasive in a site but you know what pages are relevant and sometimes you don't want that page at all. I would like it to stay gone instead of re-indexing.

I don't understand why IndexItem and Moderation need to be separated. And having bulk actions would greatly increase the ability to use categories. I can do all the stuff above but getting there with the current workflow is very arduous. Just some thoughts.

And I would like thumbs up and down to be related to the search term incident. Right now the thumbs up is absolute. Which is cool but we need a total and a count related to the term searched when thumbs up is given. Or a way to get such a ranking going. This would consistently improve the quality of the results related to the term on a same portal site.

The reason for this is because Seamus also has moderation setting for items that are aggregated. We did not want to reproduce the same code and keep 2 instances updated for the same thing. Also, the Moderation module has future plans to handle moderation of businesses, and events. So while it may make sense to add a link or something from IndexItem to the Moderation module, it does not make sense to add all of the functionality directly to IndexItem.
