Hi,

On our site, we have 6 streams which have been implemented as cateories.   For each of our "Streams" main pages, we need this to be populated EXACTLY as the search directory with items that are approved or associated to that Stream (or category).  I have tried several iterations of this before I finally found the seach directory which is what I need.  Now, I am having a few lingering issues getting this to behave as I want it to.  Right now, I have 6 Index Items modules (each on thier own page).  Do i need that many or do I only need one?  Does the index item automatically get updated when the site gets reindexed?  I have an external site set up to be crawled also and I never see any results from that page in my index items.  Also, if I set the index item on the SearchDirectory and set it up to show for a specific category, will it show all items that are tagged as that category in the index item?

Thanks

Brian

You only need one instance of Index Item.  It sounds like you want to be using 6 instances of Search Directory.  Set each one to the appropriate Default Category in the module settings and set the Index Item TabID to the one instance of Index Item.

If new content is not showing up in the external crawler, it is possible that the content has not been approved for public display.

Thanks for the replies.  One more stupid question:  How do I approve the content for public display?

Host and Admin roles have the ability to approve content upon creation(there is a check box in the form).  Otherwise, the content must be approved in the Moderation module.

Ok, that makes sense.  Now, hopefully one more stupid question and i will be finished.

I have things showing up in my search directory.  When as an admin, if I approve them, set the category and check the search directory checkbox, they appear in the appropriate search directory module.  Now my only problem is when you click on the intem in the search directory, it takes me to the page where the item index resides.  Shouldnt it take me directly to the url of the page?  If i click a second time, it will take me to the page (clicking the link on the item index) and the url on the item is correct.  Any ideas what I am doing wrong now?

Clicking on the article's title should take you directly to the URL.  Cliciking "Read More" will bring you to the detail page that you mentioned.

Any ideas what I could be doing to alter this behavior?  The behavior you described is what I want, but when I click the title or the read more, they both go to the index item (with only that one item in the list).  Basically to actually get to the page, it takes 2 clicks which my client is not going to like.  I know I had a similar problem with the search module and it was becasue i had the index item on the same page as the search.  In this scenario, I have the index item on its own tab.  The url is correct, I have double checked this.  The item index is set to the correct tab.  I am just lost.

When content is created in Index Item there is a URL field.  If this field has a direct URL to the content, then clicking the title in Search Directory should take you straight to that URL.

What if it is not behaving that way? I am sure that I have a property off in one of these 2 modules, either he search directory or the index item. I even deleted all the pages from my site and re-added them all just to be sure there was nothing old hanging around causing the problem. So when I click EITHER the title or the read more link, I go to the same spot (Item Index), which requires one more click to get there. When I check the item in the item index, the URL field is there and the value is correct. And as I said, when I click the title in the item index, I go to the page, when I click the title in the search directory, i go to the Item index. Any thoughts?

You just need to change the token in the templates for each Search Directory module. The default template uses [VIEWURL]. You need to use [URL] instead.

Re-reading everything, I would suggest you do the following if you have not done so already.

1. Use a single IndexItem module on a Detail/Submission page.

2. Add 1 search directory module to each "category page" you have created. Configure each one to use "Default Category" in module settings for the cooresponding Category. Add the indexid for the page you created for "Detail/Submission to the IndexItem TabId module setting. Change [VIEWURL] to [URL] in the template in module settings.

I also want to note that there are several other tokens that we do not have in the default template, but are available in the module settings:

[ENCLOSURETYPE]: File type
[ENCLOSURESIZE]: File size
[RANK]: Rank of item
[RANKING] or [RANKING:TemplateName]: Ranking control
[RATING] or [RATING:TemplateName]: Rating control
[SOCIALBOOKMARK] or [SOCIALBOOKMARK:TemplateName] or [SOCIALBOOKMARK:Keys]: Social web sharing links where Keys is ";" delimited bookmark key.
[CITY]: City of item
[STATE]: State of item
[CATEGORIES]: Links to categories of item
[CATEGORIESTEXT]: Text of categories for item
[COMMENTSLINK]: Comments of item
[DELETEINDEX]: Command button to delete item index

Ok, I am SO close now!  It was the VIEWURL thing in the List Template like you suggesed.  Now, categories are not filtering.  If i can get this last thing fixed, I will try to be quiet for the rest of the day!

I have set the Default category in the search directory module, but i am seeing all categories (including none).

Thanks!

Brian

Appears to be.  I downloaded to 8/18 around 9:30.  Unless there was one released later that day (under downloads, it only show date).

3.1.0 is most recent version. Look in Module Definitions and confirm.

And of coarse I am running 3.00.10! Are there any other dependant modules I will need to reinstall? WebControls or search or Index item for example?

I would suggest having Seamus 3.1.0 and Web Controls 3.0.10 , after that it doesn't really matter(order wise).  Always install Seamus first, then Web Controls, then all others.
